The slaughter in Iraq.

I have long asked myself what kind of people carry out, every day, the appalling, indiscriminate and sadistic slaughter of Iraqi civilians by other Iraqis - not directed against foreign occupiers and with no avowed political aim such as one would expect in a civil war or in the attempt of a group of people trying to seize power.

I have just found a striking analysis and possible explanation of this phenomenon in an article by Brendan O'Neill on a website called Spike, which can be found on
